ET hypothesis or ET belief?
When a hypothesis is used always have temporary status, it is never final.
It is a claim trying to synthesize in a single statement or idea a whole
set of evidence.
If new evidence is not fully consistent with such hypothesis then the given
hypothesis should be modified or replaced. That is the "normal"
and expected process with any hypothesis.
But for many people the ET hypothesis is a lot more than just an
hypothesis, it is a belief with a lot of emotional attachment.
That automatically takes away objectivity from anybody with emotional
attachment to any hypothesis.
This emotional attachment to ETH had clouded the judgment of many
Ufologists.
They simply had inflated evidence supporting their hypothesis and then they
had belittled/suppressed any evidence that not fully support their beloved
hypothesis, they really had been doing, ironically, wholesale suppression
of evidence when many of these Ufologists frequently mention cover-ups.
